Shopping online securely
How does CaixaBank protect you when shopping online?
The PSD2 regulation requires Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) to validate online card purchases. Each transaction must be verified through the CaixaBank app to ensure that the person making the purchase is the actual cardholder.
How to validate your online purchase
Validating your online purchase from the app or website is easy
-
Start your purchase
Enter your card details on the online store where you are placing the order.
-
Check your device
You’ll receive a notification in the CaixaBank app, or you may need to access it manually if you're using a computer.
-
Authorise the payment
Check the retailer and the amount carefully. If everything looks correct, select “Authorise”; if not, cancel. It will be available for 7 minutes.
-
Sign the transaction
Enter your digital signature if we ask for it to make sure it’s you who is making the purchase.
-
Complete your order
Go back to the store to complete the purchase.

Don’t see the authorise purchase payment option?
If the notification doesn’t appear right away in the CaixaBank app, don’t worry. Like a good detective, there are other secure ways to confirm the transaction:
- Go to the “Pending operations” option, it’s visible as soon as you open the app.
- Only the cardholder receives these notifications and can authorise them. If a purchase is made using a family member's card, they will need to open the CaixaBank app on their own device to confirm the purchase.
