More secure contactless payments with a PIN

The PSD2 regulation requires asking for the secret PIN more often for contactless in-person purchases.

Whenever your total contactless spending reaches €150 or more, the card reader will request your PIN to verify that you’re the one making the payment.

How does it work day to day?

If you’re paying with your phone

Authentication is already guaranteed through the biometrics or PIN on your device, so you won’t need to enter your card PIN at the terminal.

Hold your card near the terminal and follow the instructions

Sometimes, you’ll just need to enter your PIN without inserting the card; other times, you’ll need to insert the card and then type in the code.

If you don't remember it, you can:

  • Check it in the CaixaBank app: go to "My cards", select your card and go into the "Card details and management" menu.
  • Change it at a CaixaBank ATM or branch, or by calling 938 87 25 25.

If your PIN gets blocked after three incorrect attempts, you’ll need to unblock it via the CaixaBank website or app, at a CaixaBank branch, or by calling 938 87 25 25.

Track every purchase

Enable notifications in the CaixaBank app to receive instant alerts when confirmation or unblocking is required for contactless payments, and make sure your email address is up to date.
