The call that may not be what it seems

In the digital world, cybercriminals are constantly refining their methods. One of the most common is vishing, a type of fraud that combines fake phone calls with other deceptive techniques.

Its goal is clear: to trick you into revealing confidential information or making payments without realising it.

How do scammers operate?

0
Spoofed call

The scammer contacts you by phone and may alter the number to make it appear as if it’s from your bank or another official institution.

1
Urgency as bait

They simulate an urgent problem, such as a fraudulent transaction, to make you act without thinking.

2
Request for sensitive data

Under the pretext of helping you resolve a false problem you don't actually have, they ask for passwords, card details, or even request that you install remote-access apps that allow them to control your device.

They may also ask you to carry out transactions, such as unexpected or urgent payments or actions.

3
The scam in action

With the information they get, they access your accounts or convince you to authorise transactions yourself.

Common vishing cases

If it sounds convincing and urgent, it could be suspicious. Some common examples:

Fake calls pretending to be from your bank.

Commercial scams offering fake services or products.

Impersonation of public institutions.

How to protect yourself from vishing

  • CaixaBank will never ask for passwords, or banking or personal information over the phone, or request that you install external apps.
  • Do not download remote control programs at the request of third parties.
  • Be wary of messages or calls demanding urgent action.
  • Review each transaction before approving it. If something doesn't add up, cancel it.
  • If you receive a suspicious call, hang up. Then call the bank's official number to confirm.

Do you think you may have been a victim of vishing?

Scams are often disguised as emergencies or threats. Be especially wary of any urgent requests for details or payments.

Keep calm, use your common sense, and if you think you might be a victim of fraud, get in touch with CaixaBank immediately through the official channels: Adviser Space or by calling 938 87 25 25.
